My thoughts on Jason Aaron Vs. Alan Moore.
Writer of great comics, Jason Aaron, has taken offense at some of another great writer's words. This wouldn't be too interesting except the man he is mad at is comics-messiah Alan Moore. What do I think? Well, frankly it's none of my business but I'm still going to weigh in....
Some time ago Alan Moore made some comments about how he was sick of the comic's industry screwing him over, and thought there was very little to no people left with talent in the comics industry. Jason Aaron responded to Alan Moore's thoughts with a, and I quote, "Fuck you." Then everyone else chimed in with their thoughts. What do I think? Well, the industry has definitely screwed over Alan Moore plenty of times, but I don't think it was nice of him to insult everyone in comics industry. Then again, Moore doesn't care if he burns all the bridges he ever built because--hey--he's Alan Moore. Personally, if Alan Moore were to say of me, "That David Bitterbaum has a blog that is absolute shite and I hope he dies in the gutter," I would probably jump up and down for joy yelling, "Alan Moore knows who I am! Alan Moore knows who I am!" but that's just me.
Anyways, I understand Jason Aaron being mad that Alan Moore "dissed" the comics industry and its writers and artists the way he did, but i don't think Moore had Aaron specifically in mind when doing so. Moore has been around a long time and had numerous bad experiences with the comics industry, from being denied rights he deserves, to having to go to court for an absurd copyright argument (I don't recall the details, but it was silly--google it). So, is Aaron justified in being angry? Yes. Is Moore justified in being cranky and sullen about comics? Yes to that also. I just hope that maybe Moore and Aaron can get together and make-up, as they both are truly great comic writers.
