Television Tuesday: "Love & Translation," is When a Joke Becomes a Real Show

It was late March of 2023 when I stated how I wished that an early April Fool's Day joke that Peacock had posted online was real. It was a trailer for a show called, "Love Language," which would be funded partly by the app Duolingo and featured contestants who spoke different languages figuring out how to communicate (with some help from Duolingo). It was absurd but it made me wonder if such a thing could work as a real show? Well, in the words of the modern-day poets known as the Pussycat Dolls, "Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it." That's right, TLC is bringing us, "Love & Translation."

"Love & Translation," has a description on the official site about how it features three American men who only speak English dating 12 International women in paradise (so at a nice resort). The women speak a variety of languages...but zero English. Unless there is a shocking mid-game twist that all the women are in fact bilingual or something--which would be kind of clever--this is essentially the Duolingo joke show without the green owl, a fact others have observed too. "Love & Translation," will most likely be incredibly awkward and full of cringe-inducing moments...so yeah, I'm going to watch it. Whether this will be so-silly-it's good or just bad remains to be seen, but come January 21st we'll know!
