Okay, so Lettuce is Giving Everyone Uncontrollable Diarrhea?

America has been facing a large number of cyclosporiasis cases. It is a parasite that makes someone really sick to the point they have explosive, watery, unstoppable diarrhea. Not a fun time, in other words. People have been hospitalized due to how sick they've gotten, and enough Taco Bell restaurants have been liked to cases that in various locations they have stopped putting certain vegetables in their meals--and that's a restaurant generally associated with blowing up the toilet! It seems the culprit may be lettuce and other salad greens that were contaminated. Basically, if you needed an excuse to pass on the salad and instead dig into a bag of potato chips, here you go.

In all seriousness, the fact that our current government has massively cut funding to the CDC, and parasite monitoring as well makes it less-than-surprising that it has taken a bit of time for anyone to get much of a lead on this. Everyone likes to say certain government programs/initiatives/whatever are pointless and we should save money by getting rid of them. Then, lo and behold, something that certain people said was a waste of cash turns into a huge issue (hello there, screwworm). Public health is like an escalator, in some ways. You don't particularly take note of it when everything is working as intended. Then, somebody decides not to worry as much about maintenance, the escalator breaks, and we all become very aware of it being an issue as we trek up the stairs that should be carrying us up. Things may only get worse, I worry, as the results of things that, "Aren't important," getting cut continue to become apparent.

A Combination IHOP and Applebee's Exists--How Did I Just Learn About This?

Apparently, back in late 2024, it was announced that there were going to be a restaurant that served as a combination of IHOP and Applebee's. It would be one big space that featured the decor of each brand on either side, but you could order from both menus regardless of where you sat. I did not know about this, but in February of this year, the first combo spot opened in Texas. It reminds me of those Pizza Hut/Taco Bell locations that used to be very popular and which inspired the infamous song, "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell." I am a fan of both IHOP and Applebee's so being able to get a mix of items all in one place sounds appealing to me. I don't intend to take a road trip just for this purpose anytime soon, but if they wanted to open one of these franchises in the Saint Louis region I'd gladly visit.

My Review of Taco Bell Chicken Nuggets

Taco Bell loves to release random items on the unsuspecting populace. Sometimes they become major hits and stay around semi-permanently (nacho fries). Other times they come and go (Mexican pizza). The latest release is a box of chicken nuggets. Yes, Taco Bell has entered the nugget game. After being tested in various locations they are available nationwide with various dipping sauces. Are they decent, however?

Taco Bell chicken nuggets are pretty good, if not amazing. You can buy them as a five or ten-piece box. The nuggets don't seem to have a uniform size with some being oddly large and others kind of small. The taste is pleasant, like your usual nugget but with a bit of a spicy kick--albeit not too much spice. Paired with some ranch or nacho cheese sauce the Taco Bell nuggets are a pleasant option even if they aren't the best temporary item ever (that would have to be the rolled chicken tacos). While they're around I'll eat them but I won't be too distraught when they're gone and replaced with some other promotional choice.

3.5 out of 5 Stars.

Taco Bell Brought Back the Mexican Pizza and Promptly Sold Out of It

I enjoy some menu items at Taco Bell--I will substitute chicken in my burritos or cheesy gordita crunch meals and often find that tasty. I know people make fun of Taco Bell for not being, "Real Mexican food," but it isn't like our American take on Chinese food is that accurate either. This leads me to discuss how the, "Mexican Pizza," that folks loved at Taco Bell was finally brought back only to promptly sell out and be nearly impossible to find.

Our nation is going through a lot. We've got soaring gas prices, supply chain shortages of baby formula, a friendly country under siege (Ukraine), and now people can't even enjoy a Mexican Pizza. I'm being a little silly about how serious a problem this is, but folks are legit angry on the internet (you may have heard of it) and want their beloved Mexican Pizzas. Hopefully, this nightmare can be resolved and Mexican Pizza will be back for all who desire it to enjoy in a short period of time.

Television Tuesday: Is it Weird I Would Watch an Actual, "Web of Fries," Movie?

There is an ad on the television currently for how Taco Bell now does their own unique french fries. This is not an ordinary advertisement however, with it in fact seemingly like a thriller movie covering a conspiracy to prevent french fries from being interesting and having any kind of condiment besides ketchup. It sounds silly, and it is, but it works. It ticks all the standard thriller-movie trailer boxes, and that is the self-aware point. Even if it is meant to be a bit of a parody however, it is so good at being a joking imitation of something, it feels real. Watch below:

Josh Duhamel does a really good job acting as he finds himself increasingly enmeshed in a shadowy plot complete with an evil organization, mysterious info-provider, and car chases. It is so straight-faced that is what actually makes it kind of funny, but it also is just so competently done that it seems more professional than half the actual flicks that have come out lately. I mean, watch the trailer for a stinker like, "Paranoia," which had a great cast but was terrible and looked stupid, and then view, "Web of Fries," and tell me which one looks better (and yes, "Paranoia," bombed at the box office due to looking so lame, if you're curious).

The ad maybe isn't getting a ton of buzz, but I'm not alone in finding it smart and subtle, or wishing it we could somehow see the whole flick. I haven't actually tried the fries yet and early reviews are middling at best or call them a, "Chemical Hellbeast," at worst. Even if the fries themselves suck however, the trailer for the faux-movie about them is advertainment at its finest
