"The Serpent of the Sea," is a Great Tale Full of Creepy Vibes

"The Serpent of the Sea," is a new comic by writer Finlay Miles and illustrator Lyndon White. It's a highly enjoyable one-shot story with a delightfully unreliable narrator who might be suffering from madness or could have simply stumbled into knowledge no human should learn of, and found the Universe prefers anything he discovered be rendered forgotten. Set in 1882, we read the diaries of Captain Edward Bartholomew Pierce as a seemingly straightforward search for missing shipping vessels morphs into a fight for his life against all manner of strange creatures and beings.

Miles does a superb job of filling readers with dread and White's illustrations are imposing and scary without a doubt. They cram a lot of impressive storytelling into their comic, and I do wonder if we'll someday get a sequel exploring how much of what Captain Pierce believes occurred is real or imagined. If you desire a good serving of horror, "The Serpent of the Sea," should help satisfy that craving! You can buy it on White's website, and I rate it...

"Reanimator Incorporated." is Kickstarting the Latest Issue!

I was quite fond of both the first and the second issues of, "Reanimator Incorporated." Well, the creative team of Andrew Perry and  Lyndon White is back at it with a Kickstarter campaign for chapter/book three! Backers can receive physical or digital copies of this latest part of the wild horror and sci-fi yarn that re-imagines the original H.P. Lovecraft, "Herbert West: Reanimator," story in a fascinating (and beautifully illustrated) manner. If you've missed the first two chapters, there is no reason to worry as there are options backers can select to get all three entries of the comic.

I've had a chance to read a chunk of this third issue and continue to be impressed by Perry and White's series. I'd encourage anyone with a fondness for the concepts of cosmic horror, fans of great (and creepy artwork), or anyone who just enjoys a good scary tale to check out this latest Kickstarter!

Chapter Two of, "Reanimator Incorporated," is Another Stupendous Issue!

I read and quite enjoyed the first chapter of, "Reanimator Incorporated." Written by Andrew Perry with art by Lyndon White, the series follows a large corporation in the somewhat-near future trying to figure out how to bring back the dead and make a profit from it. At the end of the last issue, Dr. Herbert West's son, Michael, died in a lab accident. This issue spends most of its time between Dr. Herbert West and Dr. Dan Cain trying to figure out how to bring him back and keep him stable as well as Michael in a nether realm of sorts attempting to find his way back to his body.

This issue has a lot more supernatural elements with Michael somewhat undead and something else evil trying to infiltrate his body and come alive. The surreal stuff balances nicely with the sci-fi as Perry and White give us a fascinatingly thoughtful and at times creepy story. This series draws from the HP Lovecraft story, "Herbert West: Reanimator," but stands alone as its own superb tale--one I highly recommend.

"Reanimator Incorporated," Has a Fantastic First Chapter and Now Is Kickstarting the Second!

Andrew Perry is the writer of the comic, "Reanimator Incorporated," and reached out to me asking if I'd be interested in reading and reviewing the first chapter. He also supplied some preview pages for the second chapter which he told me would have a Kickstarter campaign. Drawing from the HP Lovecraft story, "Herbert West: Reanimator," but bringing its own unique vision and twists, I really enjoyed the first chapter and was excited by what I read in the second one! 

"Reanimator Incorporated," takes place in a near-ish future where a large corporation is attempting to figure out how to bring the dead back to life but struggling to do so--much to the chagrin of shareholders. Herbert West and Dan Cain try to tweak the machine while West's home life is a wreck between an unhappy wife and son--Michael West--who feels ignored and desires help with his own projects. When the reanimation seems to start working but has some horrific results I had my attention quite captured! 

I've mentioned the writer as that is who reached out first, but I need to discuss Lyndon White, who provides the art and lettering. White does a fantastic job showing regular day-to-day life and then contrasting it with surreal and bizarre imagery when we see glimpses of weird spirit worlds and afterlives. It creates a great dichotomy. Things get even stranger in the second chapter I had a chance to see a preview of as we spend even more time in some Lovecraftian netherworlds while asking questions about if a body is reanimated what of the soul?

I give the first chapter of, "Reanimator Incorporated," 5 out of 5 stars and would encourage everyone to check out the Kickstarter that just started for chapter 2 (and which provides an opportunity to get both chapters). I had a lot of fun reading the first chapter and from what I've seen of the second things will only get even wilder!
