DC released some new special magazines to newsstands at pharmacies/grocery stores/Target but didn't mention it to anyone--as odd as that sounds. Bleeding Cool noticed and made a little article about this, humorously enough. There is a Batman one and a Superman one. They contain the first parts of various stories with foreward text explaining a bit about the tale. Then, I was at Target yesterday with Clarkson to get some groceries, and I did indeed notice the Batman magazine.
I bought the Batman issue and brought it home. It has the first issue of the New 52 relaunch of Batman, the Rebirth-era relaunch (Snyder and Capullo did a lot of cool stuff), and the first issue of, "The Long Halloween." I enjoyed the New 52 era of Batman and, "Long Halloween," has amazing art by Tim Sale (and decent writing by Jeph Loeb when he was more solid than hit-or-miss), so both of those are rad. The Rebirth Batman run by Tom King had an extremely mixed reception, but I found it fun and I'd say all three stories are good ways to be, "Introduced," to various takes on Batman from the last decade-and-change.
Each of the three stories are merely the start of runs or a mini-series, and I don't know if the plan is to have a second issue of a magazine for each issue to continue those stories or if the idea is folks will go seek out trade paperbacks of these yarns. As I mentioned, there is a Superman magazine too and I could imagine magazines being done for other characters from Wonder Woman, to the various Green Lanterns, Aquaman, and so forth. As it stands, this is a nice way to sample some comics if you're more of a, "Mainstream," audience that knows of superhero characters but who doesn't read many comics.
