Television Tuesday: The, "Fallout," Show is Streamable Tomorrow!

I was incredibly bummed when, "Westworld," ended up getting canceled by Warner Brothers Discovery as the company slaughtered their entire line of movies, shows, and now games. However, I was excited to hear the showrunners of, "Westworld," would be making a, "Fallout," show. Yes, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy crafted a show set in the Universe of, "Fallout," and I am pumped for a variety of reasons. I love (most) of the games, am a fan of Nolan and Joy's work, and the show is on Amazon Prime so it has got itself a juicy budget (Bezos' and his mega-yachts don't play). None of that guarantees a good show however, so I'm pleased early buzz is overwhelmingly positive.

The show is getting so much hype that Amazon has moved the release up a day with every single episode launching tomorrow, April 10th. A second season is already basically confirmed, and the games are on sale in a digital bundle with some great titles (and ones that got more mixed reviews) if you want to dive into the Universe further before or after viewing the show. By all accounts, "Fallout," as a television show is superb and I can't wait to tune in starting tomorrow! Now we just need Nolan and Joy's dream of finishing, "Westworld," to come true someday too.

"Westworld," Has Been Canceled, Damn

 

As a number of websites are reporting, HBO's parent company, Warner Brother Discovery, has canceled, "Westworld," and I'm really perturbed. As yet another casualty of the big merger and horrendous management in the form of David Zaslav, the overall plan of having a fifth and final season is now dead. It is a huge disappointment.

Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan were thanked profusely in the press release for all their hard work, with HBO gushing, "Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step. We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers, and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot, and Warner Bros. Television. It’s been a thrill to join them on this journey." This is in an announcement about how the whole thing is canceled so it is a weird tonal disconnect. I quite enjoyed the last (and now final) season, but now we'll just have to wonder what could have been. Apparently, the program cost more than Zaslav/the network liked in terms of the viewership it received, so off it goes with all the other stuff WB Discovery cut. The cast still gets paid a chunk of money thanks to their contracts though, even if the show doesn't get made. It's a bummer.
