Vinegar Syndrome is a Cool Website for Vintage and Cult Films

Before I begin, I know there are websites that offer DVDs and such of old hard-to-find movies that they burn and sell somewhat illegally, but those are pretty poor quality of the ones I've seen. That is why when I saw a link from the American Genre Film Archive to their official partner in releasing some of their movies, Vinegar Syndrome, I was pleased to discover this website has official high-quality DVDs and Blu-Rays of popular cult, underground, and mostly forgotten films. 

Vinegar Syndrome is much like the AGFA in their dedication to film preservation, with it actually being where they get their name from--Vinegar Syndrome is when old film deteriorates from its own chemicals eating it alive. Vinegar Syndrome has their own on-site lab dedicated to film preservation and through their partnerships with various organizations and film companies has some awesome flicks for sale. I have a fondness for weird old movies, whether it is watching them or reading about them, so a site dedicated to selling copies of them--that aren't bootlegs--is very appreciated. If you're into weird old movies give them a look.

Comic publisher Northwest Press is going to help people celebrate pride this June by mailing-out, "Pride Postcards," with all kinds of awesome artwork by creators. You can give the Kickstarter campaign for it a gander here.

Samii and I found Netflix's show, "Too Hot to Handle," to be dumb fun. I'm all for a, "Virtual reunion,' episode whilst waiting for a new season to be possible in a hopefully post-pandemic world.

Two video-game companies, THQ Nordic and Koch Media, traded some of their IPs to one another, with this news catching my eye as one IP was, "Red Faction," which had some awesome and miserable games. I am curious if this shuffling of rights between companies indicates plans for anything to be rebooted. Dare I assume we will get a new X-rated rip-off of, "The Sims," in the form of, "Singles: Flirt Up Your Life?"

I was a big fan of the first American Genre Film Archive's, "Mystery Mixtape," they released for just 99 cents (or you could donate more). They did a second one and now a third just came out too. I'd recommend giving them all a viewing!

I quite liked the comic, "Wyrd," and considered it one of the funniest reads of 2019. Comicsbeat just posted an interview with the book's artist, Antonio Fuso, and he mentions there will be more news on, "Wyrd,' in the future, so that excites me!

This article reviewing the early access/still-in-development game, "Lumberjack Dynstasy," makes taking down trees sound a lot more full of intrigue and mystery than you might assume.

Birdcage Bottom Books puts out some stellar indie titles and currently has a 50% off sale going for a number of their anthology books as long as you use the code HALFANTHOLOGIES at check-out to buy such awesome reads as, "Bottoms Up!" "Cringe," and, "Digestate."

In interesting news, long-running drama-thriller, "The Blacklist," is going to air its half-filmed season finale by doing the scenes that weren't complete in an animated graphic-novel style. That sounds snazzy and immediately makes me think of the classic, "Max Payne," games.

Quibi has had a rough time lately. Besides new episodes of the stellar, "Reno 911!" it has minimal interesting content, allegedly was taking privacy data to sell it shouldn't have (while claiming it was a glitch) and now Quibi is being sued for possibly ripping-off its, "Turnstyle," tech from another company. I've been fascinated by the service as something that had some clever ideas but seems to have botched almost everything since launch. At this rate, I doubt Qubi will exist by next year.

Support the AGFA for Less Than a Dollar and Get Some Wild Genre Film Footage to Stream and Enjoy

The American Genre Film Archive is a non-profit near and dear to my heart. I love weird old genre flicks, the weirder and trashier the better. I like to read about them, watch them, and otherwise am fascinated by strange flicks. The AGFA is the only Federally recognized 501(c)(3) dedicated to the preservation of the legacy of genre movies through collection, conservation, and distribution. They have a fancy building in Texas that restores and stores these films which they rent to theaters as well, with all profits going back into the organization and its mission. However, with theaters shut-down, they have been needed a bit of extra help to raise funds. With this in mind, they just released their awesome, "AGFA MYSTERY MIXTAPE #1."

For just 99 cents (or more, I gave five bucks) you can buy the ability to stream this, "Mixtape," online with an hour-ish or random weird genre content in a zany, "Found footage," style. As the description goes, it is, "...a brand new compilation of the most electrifying found footage mayhem that you’ll see this week. For our kick-off tape, we’ve curated an hour-long joyride through the hallowed halls of 'behind the scenes' horror." For a penny less than a dollar (do give more if able, however) you can feel good about donating to charity and get some awesome zany old film content to watch. I donated and am eager to kick-back later today and watch the whole thing after just enjoying a smidgen before needing to do some household tasks, and then making this post. Gotta keep busy during the quarantine, you know how it is.
