Attend the Micro Con Next Sunday!
A week from today STL Comics will be holding their latest Micro Con! Yes, Sunday at 10AM through 3PM there will be (as the banner says) comics, toys, and artists. One big guest at the show is none other than Kyle Starks who at a different previous convention drew me a stellar Moon Knight. He's super-talented and quite nice, so it is awesome he will be there. In addition, other guests such as Jeff Ewards and my friend Lorenzo Lizana will be at the show with a whole lot of fantastic vendors. The show will take place at the Manhattan Antique Marketplace (10431 Saint Charles Rock Road, Saint Ann, Missouri 63074), and is completely free to attend. I look forward to the show and hope to see you there!

Make Sure to Attend the Latest STL Comics Micro Con Tomorrow!
Tomorrow, July 29th, from 10AM-4PM there will be the latest Micro Con held by none other than STL Comics! They are always stellar events full of fantastic vendors I enjoy seeing such as Cabal Books, Lost in Space Toys and Collectibles, Trade Up Comics, Wayne Kent Comics, and plenty more! It is only $3 to get in, with free parking, and kids 10 and under are always free. Do note it has a new location, the Manhattan Antique Marketplace located at 10431 Saint Charles Rock Road in Saint Ann, Missouri, 63074. It should be a fun time as Eric Meyer (the head of STL Comics) always puts on a great show!

I Totally Forgot to Talk About The Hero Initiative the Other Day!
I put-up my post on Sunday about the fun I had at the most recent Micro Con. I realized today I totally forgot to talk about one entity there however that I is extremely important in what it does for others, The Hero Initiative! A volunteer for the organization I am friends with, Brian Lan, was at the Micro Con with an assortment of items donated by others (including comics signed by creators) where the proceeds are donated to The Hero Initiative. I've made mention of the organization before, but for those unaware, it is a non-profit (the first one, in fact) which was founded to help comic-creators (writers, artist, etc.) in need. Assisting with everything from medical bills, to rent, and other quality-of-life aspects, The Hero Initiative does some great stuff.
Now, some may wonder why such an organization is even needed, and unfortunately while comic-creators today sometimes own the rights to popular properties or have deals in place to at least get royalties for their comic-book work, countless comic-makers who created comics decades ago did so with no promise of further income plus zero retirement or health benefits. It was work-for-hire that treated them thanklessly and now these people who made amazing work for the world over the decades face declining health and few resources. It is depressing that creators who made properties worth millions (or billions) or dollars can end-up struggling to even pay for their groceries or desperately needed medical care, and that is why it is admirable how hard The Hero Initiative works to help those who put forth blood, sweat, and tear to bring us such amazing comics. It is always great to see Brian at shows volunteering for The Hero Initiative and I encourage you to learn more about the organization and the good it does.

Today's Micro Con by STL Comics Was Terrific!
Today I attended the latest Micro Con held by STL Comics (which I got home from a bit ago and wraps-up for the day in a couple hours) and had a stellar time as always. I ran into some of my usual favorite vendors including Spike Forster of Lost in Space Toys and Collectibles, and my chum Drew Stuart of CoMo Comic Books who was kind enough to pose for a picture:
I also had the pleasure of seeing Justin Mosley of Wayne Kent Comics, and my old friend Jack Brown of Trade Up Comics:
I chatted with some guests too, such as the skilled Lorenzo Lizana, my talented friend David Gorden, and saw Kenneth Rocafort, who was kind enough to sign my trade paperback of, "Ultimates: Omniversal," which he was the illustrator for (of the collected issues). Oh, and I ran into the delightfully-wild James Doe of Cabal Books:
I was able to trade-for and purchase an assortment of books, but the most notable ones that got me especially excited would have to be a, "Marvel Spotlight," #29 which I bought from Drew of the aforementioned CoMo Comic Books--it will perfectly compliment the #28 I own (and which means I now have both parts of this two-issue story with Moon Knight). I also was able to acquire an old Spider-Man comic where Moon Knight guest-stars from another kind vendor:
Besides those books I was pleased to be able to trade a chunk of my stuff to get, "Special Marvel Edition," #15 AKA the first-ever appearance of Shang-Chi, the Master of Kung-Fu. The comic is in a lower-grade condition, but just being able to own it is fantastic:
Today at the Micro Con I was able to sell some books, trade a handful of things, and buy some fantastic comics. I just want to thank Eric Meyer of STL Comics for yet again having a stellar show. If any of my readers live near Columbia, Missouri, there will be a Micro Con there April 20th, and you know I'm already excited to see what is in store for the next Saint Louis Micro Con taking place on July 28th. It feels far away now, but I'm sure that date will be in here no time!

Another Great Micro Con is in a Week!
I am a fan of local toy and comic events, and have often discussed my great enjoyment of the Mirco Cons put on by STL Comics. Well, a week from today there will be another Micro Con! That's right, February 24th, 2019, from 10AM-4PM you can see all kinds of great vendors, awesome guests (Kenneth Rocafort will be there along with such stellar guests as Lorenzo Lizana and David Gorden), and otherwise have a ton of fun for just $3 admission (kids 10 and under are free). I always find stellar stuff at the Micro Cons, which feature such fantastic vendors as Trade Up Comics, CoMo Comic Books, Wayne Kent Comics, Cabal Books, and more! I look forward to attending the show next week at the Holiday Inn located at 3400 Rider Trail South, St. Louis, MO, 63045. Should you be a local who reads my blog or just happen to be in the area I'd encourage you to attend--I'll be there buying wares and trading my own stuff!

I Had a Wonderful Time at STL Comics' Mirco Con Yesterday!
It is Sunday evening and I'm still thinking about the stellar time I had at the latest Micro Con held by STL Comics yesterday. Between the great guests and large number of comic-vendors I had the level of fun one would expect from a big ol' convention, but thanks to the free parking and small $3 entry fee folk pay (kids 10 and under are free) it had the excitement of a big convention but didn't break the bank like one.
When I first arrived I enjoyed chatting with creators Lorenzo Lizana and David Gorden, who had tables next to each other. Mr. Lizana told me about an upcoming sci-fi comic he was working on titled, "Regulators," that will have a sci-fi space-pulp vibe meets, "The A-Team," with a strong sense of adventure and the tongue-in-cheek style of those classic 1980's episodes of the show. Mr. Gorden was selling his latest comic he wrote and illustrated, "Kwame Hightower and the Man With No Name." Both were a delight to speak with about comics (as always) and they were kind enough to pose for a quick photo:
After I stopped to meet and talk with Kyle Strahm about how I've enjoyed his work on, "Spread," as well as other cool comics, I began examining the goods on sale. A wide range of comic-vendors were present, from those selling more expensive golden and silver age books, to retailers with plenty of modern stuff, and of course a number of people had my personal favorite thing to root through--dollar bins. I bought some cool cheesecake-style comics from Cabal Books and got all excited just looking at an old copy of Moon Knight's first appearance in, "Werewolf by Night," #32 which Wayne Kent Comics had for sale in addition to other stellar reads. Speaking of Moon Knight, I was able to trade some of my stuff for a handful of awesome, "Moon Knight," books in addition to some other stuff from a vendor based in Cape Girardeau, Shane Lodi. They are absolutely gorgeous:
Yesterday's Micro Con was just plain fantastic, and I appreciate STL Comics for always putting on such great comic-shows. I'm excited for their upcoming, "Geeky Extravaganza," which will be an event focused on not just comics, but also incorporate toys, crafts, gaming, and other fun stuff. That happens on January 26th, 2019, at the Manhattan Antique Marketplace (10431 Saint Charles Rock Road, Saint Ann, Missouri 63074) and you already know if I'm able to attend I'll be there!

I'm Pumped for the Upcoming Mirco Con on December 1st!
Anytime STL Comics puts on a Micro Con that I'm able to attend I get very excited. For a very reasonable price ($3, kids 10 and under are free, parking has no cost) you can visit with a variety of cool guests, observe the wares of an assortment of vendors, and otherwise have a great comic-con experience in a smaller form--instead of having to dedicate a whole day or two you just need a couple hours to have some fun. With guests including (but not limited to) Kyle Strahm and Lorenzo Lizana as well as vendors I love buying from such as Cabal Books and Wayne Kent Comics, it is sure to be a great show. I'll be there for sure sometime between 10AM-4PM at the Holiday Inn Airport West (located at 3400 Rider Trail S, Earth City, MO 63045). I hope to see anyone else who is able to attend there!

It's a Great Weekend for Comics!
Comic-Filled Goodness
This weekend there are two big comic-related events in the Saint Louis region for folk to enjoy! I am excited to attend them both and wanted to make readers of the blog aware about these.
Saint Louis Mighty Con
Also known as the Saint Louis Comic-Con, this event runs Saturday from 10AM-7PM as well as Sunday 10AM-5PM at the Saint Charles Convention Center. I have enjoyed going to the con from its first year to this year and am eager to see all the fun stuff in store! Tickets are $12 for a single day and $20 for a weekend pass.
Micro-Con
Run by STL Comics, the latest Micro-Con is Sunday and goes from 11AM-3PM. It is all the fun of a con in a smaller form! There will be lots of sellers and a number of comic-creators as well. It is free to attend as well, which is awesome!

The Upcoming Micro Con Looks Like a Fun Weekend Activity!
This Sunday from 11AM-3PM the good folk at STL Comics will be having a their latest Micro Con at the Holiday Inn Airport West (located at 3400 Rider Trail S, Earth City, MO 63045) from 11AM-3PM. I would say this sounds like quite the fun weekend activity and best of all, it's totally free!
If you're wondering what a micro con is, it happens to be precisely what the name sounds like, a comic convention but micro-sized. Sometimes big huge conventions can be fun, but imposing. You've got to deal expensive parking fees (parking is free here as well), it takes forever to see everything, and you're exhausted after hours upon hours of walking a massive convention center. A Micro Con like what STL Comics is doing is a great way to just chill out and spend a couple hours checking out some cool comic and toy vendors. Big conventions can be immense fun, but sometimes on a lazy Sunday afternoon a nice smaller and relaxed event like this Micro Con can be perfect--plus as I mentioned, it is free! I look forward to attending Sunday and encourage anyone in the area to do so as well.
