I feel tha...Hi Marc, always good to hear from you!

I feel that if "Ground Zeroes" does sell very well then it might give people the idea that instead of releasing a full game and then downloadable content, that instead various chapters could be released of a game. We already see that trend with some games, as you point out, but I wonder if the trend could expand to an even bigger size. Imagine paying for each third of a Grand Theft Auto game for instance, and what would stop companies from charging you a lot more overall for all those chapters than for a single game? It does worry me.

That said, Phantom Pain is supposed to be a full game and this is more of a prologue, in both a symbolic and literal sense. I say "symbolic" because this introduces players to the new control-scheme and play-style that will be in Phantom Pain, and "literal" because this takes place some years before Phantom Pain and sets the events of it up, with what happens here leading directly into Phantom Pain. Therefore, I think many aspects of this game will be integral to Phantom Pain, as you ask, and my concern is people who skipped this will be confused what the hell is going on in Phantom Pain because they missed two hours of relatively important story. Then again, a thrifty gamer may just wait for the inevitable release that puts both games together in some sort of "Ultimate" or "Game of the Year" edition.David Charles Bitterbaumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00112993605550278929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7715841815733826438.post-32534399813502006342014-03-29T10:42:49.089-05:002014-03-29T10:42:49.089-05:00I wonder if this kind of release model (which seem...I wonder if this kind of release model (which seems to be taking a cue from subscription-based games like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, etc.) will become more common with major games like this one.

The issue, I guess, is how people will feel about Ground Zeroes in retrospect after they've purchased The Phantom Pain. If people are okay with essentially having paid for a preview in addition to the "final" product, I imagine we'll see more of this kind of thing in the future; if there's a huge backlash, I imagine not.

How do you think the content of Ground Zeroes will actually be incorporated into The Phantom Pain? (Or maybe they've said, and I just missed it.) Is it the beginning of the final game, or something from the middle? And do you think there are any aspects of Ground Zeroes that won't appear in The Phantom Pain?Marchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10558378521891430225noreply@blogger.com
