In Remembrance of Tim Curry

Well, this has already been a week, hasn’t it? Yes, in incredibly upsetting news for any fans of his immense body of work, Tim Curry has died at the age of 80. To list all his amazing roles would take up a whole article in itself. I will say it astounds me that one of his most famous parts was his film debut (“The Rocky Horror Picture Show,”). Plus, his presence in, “Home Alone 2,” is a big reason I actually enjoy that movie more than the first one. Curry did a ton of voiceover work too (Nigel Thornberry was a hoot), shifting mainly into that as opposed to live-action work after a stroke in 2012 limited his mobility to a degree. Whether he was terrifying us as an evil clown ("It,") making us laugh in, “Clue,” or shockingly brutal as a con artist named Rooster in, “Annie,” Curry was an amazing talent. We have a lot of great stuff to enjoy thanks to him, and plenty of joyous memories are held by those who saw him on the stage, screen, or knew him personally. He will be missed.

Film Friday: People Are Being told Not to Sing at the, "Wicked," Movie--Good!

When you see a musical at a theater do you sing loudly with the actors or do you sit there quietly and listen to the talent (unless it is specifically a sing-a-long show)? You are silent. The new, "Wicked," movie features songs many people know from the Broadway show, but theaters have been telling fans to not sing during the flicks unless they go to a special showing. This is good! I want to hear Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo singing when/if I get a chance to see, "Wicked," not some random person who could possibly be quite off-key. Most people agree with me.

Sure, movie-going is a shared experience where we oftentimes laugh together, cry together, and sometimes even yell in surprise at a scary movie together. That said, I don't need to hear a whole theater attempt to stumble through, "Popular," because many of us (including me) do not sing especially well. I love it when people are passionate about a movie, but maybe just tap your foot along with the song or mouth some words, don't scream aloud that you're defying gravity, please. It's just disrespectful to everyone else.

The Trailer for, "Hawkeye," Has Been Released and You Know I've Got Thoughts

I previously said how I was excited for the new, "Hawkeye," show because the supporting cast looked amazing--e.g. I was excited for everyone but Hawkeye himself (sorry, Jeremy Renner). I like Renner, he just has been kind of wasted as Hawkeye, and this trailer seems to indicate that yeah, Hailee Steinfeld is going to steal the show as her version of Hawkeye. That isn't surprising as Steinfeld is super-talented, but man, she really carries this trailer. Give it a watch below:

I was intrigued by this promo for the show as it starts off kind of dramatically, but then it develops a quirky tone a lot like the Matt Fraction and David Aja run--it even has the tracksuit mobsters from that arc. I really hope Fraction and Aja are getting some royalties for how much this show seems to be cribbing from them. We also get a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance of Echo (Alaqua Cox) as well as Lucky the Pizza Dog. In addition, there is a snippet of a Steve Rogers-themed Broadway musical which sounds ingenious (and a bit like Marvel doing a self-own on their failed Spider-Man play). 

Everything looks promising with nothing screaming, "This is gonna suck!" as opposed to, "This will be a good time!" I had some trepidation about the show due to how Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has just been dull, but this trailer helped assuage some concerns. Now, I quite look forward to, "Hawkeye," debuting on Disney+ this November 24th.
